For
53 years I have been existing in this world. For 53 years I have been
living among books. For 45 years I have been reading books. For 34
years I have been writing books. For 32 years I have been drumming,
recording and playing concerts with different groups in different
countries. For 30 years I have not been studying architecture. For 19
years I have been translating different books from different
languages. For 15 years I have had computers and printers. For 14
years I have been living in a small village right at the foot of The
Bald Mountains, in central Poland, in the land of extinct witches
where the zero point of the spiral calendar could be the year when
Ts’ai Lun had produced paper good for writing. For 14 years I
have
been Christine's husband. For 13 years I have been Sabina’s
father.
For 8 year I have been making wooden boxes for my books. I do not
make paper, but maybe one day I will begin. Sometimes I design
different things: posters, CD-covers, booklets, gardens,
exhibitions...
All
works necessary to make a book I do by myself at home: I imagine,
write, draw, translate, edit, design, print, bind. I have made more
than a dozen titles so far - all together more than 400 copies and
each one is numbered and signed. Editions are drastically limited due
to my technical possibilities, not to general assumptions or ideology
- I’m not (what a pity) a hundredhand monster.I am not bored. My books are in National Library in Warsaw, Book Art Museum in Lodz, Lodz University Library, Stanford University Library, Wexford Arts Centre, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Flaxman Library), The New York Public Library, The British Library, Canadian Centre for Architecture, The Danish Museum of Art and Design, Kielce Province Library and in private collections in Poland and abroad. I have shown them on many exhibitions, fairs and festivals of normal and unnormal books in Poland and abroad (Ireland, England, USA, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Belorus, Israel, Hungary, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Korea). <<< |
