![]() The
word definition
has appeared on a
computer screen. It is an active link. When clicked
a sentence compose of several words will appear and this will be a
definition of the notion definition.
Each word in this sentence-definition will be an active link, too,
because they all will appear on the screen for the first time, so
each of them can be clicked and thus a sentence defining this word
will appear. And so on. Nobody knows how long. Until there is enough
energy, imagination and force to encompass and manage the multiplying
sentences. Certainly the words already defined would not be defined
again; they wouldn't have to be linked with previous definition
although they could. Certainly they could be defined anew, in another
way. This could even be interesting, would make this apparently clear
and transparent structure of the virtual pyramid more chaotic and
tangled . . . . . . . . And until the word resources are run
out.
It must be emphasized, that all definitions would be written by
myself and not taken from dictionaries or encyclopaedias – in
spite
of appearances this is to be an adventure book, not a thesaurus.
![]() Whereas the paper version would be a real pyramid. All pages would be square. One side would be used as a spine while each of the other three would be taken by different language. On the top leaf there surely would be only one word; DEFINITION. The second leaf would be a bit bigger and on each of its three edges would appear the definition of the notion definition. The third leaf would be bigger than the second one and on its edges there would be sentences defining the words from the previous leaf. And so on. On each page the text would go triangularly from the edges to the centre and would be printed with smaller and smaller, brighter and brighter letters giving the impression of falling into a white hole...... ![]() With no doubt every word appearing for the first time should be defined with the help of words already defined. Only in such a way it would be guaranteed that any new word would be explained clearly and in the way where no additional explanations would be needed what could be necessary if accidentally a word not yet defined would be used. However this rule brings very serious complications and it's final consequence is a paradox that can not be overcome: the first sentence, the one describing the notion definition, can not be written since I will be able to use only one word “definition” (not defined in fact, because just the very first sentence will be written illegally!). So, I should first accept a few words-axioms (or predefined words) – what of course undermine the reliability of all other definitions. If I don't accept any axioms, the tale will end at once – I won't be able to make a pyramid of words definition, because it is forbidden to use any not defined notion. It means it would be better to reject this rule which paralyses the writer and annihilate his creativity. ![]() And if I turn the pyramid upside down? Then right in the beginning all words would appear on the screen and I could use them because they would be defined (HOW?). Nevertheless another problem would have to be solved. To make a reversed pyramid each lower stratum should have less words. It means either definitions should be shorter then notions just being defined (or should have a negative number of words) or the lower stratum would be formed by erasing words, combining several of them into one notion........ And so on. Up (Down) to one word on the very top (bottom) of the pyramid. I wonder what word would it be. It should be the word definition, since we have turned upside down the pyramid of definitions. However we can't be sure. Remember, it is to be an adventure book, not a thesaurus, so the end can be absolutely surprising, although as obvious as death. ![]() They say it's easy to climb a pyramid – these are just a bit bigger stairs. They also say it's more difficult to climb down: due to the inclination of the walls you feel like loosing ground under your feet. I didn't check that. Not only because it was forbidden to climb the pyramid. I preferred to go inside. It is also a solution of the pyramid book dilemma. Of course any word can appear on
the computer screen, as well as on the first page of a pyramid book,
for example:
